WiiM Sound Review: Smart, Stylish and Surprisingly Powerful
WiiM is the consumer arm of Linkplay Technology, founded in 2014 by former engineers from Google, Broadcom and Harman. Its Sound smart speaker aims to deliver hi-res audio in a compact, design-forward package, highlighted by a customisable 1.8 inch colour display that can show album art, a clock or personal images.
Design & Features
Measuring 194mm tall and 147mm wide, the Sound is compact, easy to place and weighs just 2.5kg. A touch-sensitive top panel handles playback and volume, with a remote included and support for Alexa and Google voice control. Mounting brackets are available for wall placement.
Connections include Ethernet, 3.5mm aux and power, alongside tri-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.3. Setup via the WiiM Home app is seamless, with support for stereo pairing, multi-room playback and grouping across the wider WiiM ecosystem. Over twenty streaming services are supported, including Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz and Chromecast, with playback up to 24-bit/192kHz. While AirPlay is not native, Bluetooth pairing with Apple devices is simple. Regular over-the-air updates keep features current.

Sound Performance
The Sound uses 100 watts of Class D amplification driving a 100mm mid-bass driver and dual silk dome tweeters, crossed at 2.4kHz. Claimed in-room response is 50Hz to 20kHz. Bass is taut and controlled, though ultimate low-end depth is limited at higher volumes.
WiiM’s AI RoomFIT DSP adjusts output to suit placement and room acoustics, with both automatic correction and manual EQ available. In testing, RoomFIT delivered a fuller, more balanced presentation and was preferred throughout.
In small to mid-sized rooms, a stereo pair produced an impressively room-filling sound with clear vocals, crisp highs and solid mid-bass punch. Dynamics and timing were strong, and placement on proper stands improved separation and insight further. In mono multi-room setups and as rear speakers in a 4.1 AV system, the Sound remained composed and spacious.

Verdict
The WiiM Sound combines flexibility, smart features and confident sound in a compact, affordable package. It will not match the scale of the Naim Mu-so, but it offers greater versatility and easier room integration. For those wanting a customisable, hi-res capable all-in-one smart speaker, it deserves serious consideration.
